Scintex Rubis
Scintex Rubis
The Scintex ML 250 Rubis was a French five-seat general aviation aircraft built by Scintex-Aviation in the 1960s. Only eight were made between 1964 and 1965.
Origins and design
- It was developed from the earlier ML 145 four-seat aircraft.
- The ML 145 first flew in May 1961 with a 145 hp Continental O-300-B engine.
- The Rubis used a larger five-seat cabin and a 250 hp Lycoming O-540 engine.
- The aircraft featured all-wood construction with a plywood-covered semi-monocoque fuselage, a cantilever tapered low wing, a swept tail fin, and a fully retractable tailwheel undercarriage (a relatively unusual feature).
Operational history
- Despite its advanced design, the Rubis faced stiff competition from all-metal aircraft like the Piper Comanche.
- It remained in private French use, with four airworthy examples reported in 2005.
- Two were still active on the French civil aircraft register in 2015, including the aircraft shown in images (F-BJMD).
