Scheveningen system

The Scheveningen system is a team chess format. Two teams play against each other, and every player from one team faces every player from the other team. The team with more won games is the winner. It used to be a common way to create opportunities for title norms in chess. Since March 2024, title norms cannot be earned from Scheveningen tournaments anymore. It began in Scheveningen, Netherlands, in 1923, with ten Dutch players facing ten foreign masters to give players experience against strong competition. Matches can be played with different numbers of boards, from 2 up to 13.
