Zheng Shiqi
Zheng Shiqi (1873–1935) was a Chinese general and regional governor during the early Republican era. He was born in Dingyuan, Anhui, and died in Jinan, Shandong.
Zheng served as military governor of Shandong from October 15, 1923, to April 24, 1925, and then as military governor of Anhui from April 24, 1925, to August 29, 1925. He was a general in the Anfu Club, a political-military group allied with the Nationalists.
During the Second Zhili–Fengtian War in 1924, Zheng sent a telegram to President Cao Kun saying Mukden (Shenyang) would fall in a matter of days. Beijing responded by sending about 250,000 troops to Manchuria to oppose Zhang Zuolin’s forces. Zheng declared Shandong neutral and helped block Zhang Zongchang, causing his forces to retreat toward Cangzhou.
When a new government under Duan Qirui took power, Duan allowed Fengtian troops to move into Jiangsu while keeping Zheng’s Shandong position intact. Zheng then allowed the Fengtian forces to pass and, in December, abandoned neutrality to join them.
