Saviour Chibiya is a Zambian economist and banker who leads Absa Group’s regional operations. Since November 2021, he has been the Group Executive for Regional Operations, reporting to the group CEO and based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Before that, he managed Absa’s regional operations in Botswana, Mozambique, Seychelles, Tanzania, and Uganda, a role he has held since 2019. From 2017 to 2019, he served as Regional Managing Director for Barclays Africa Group, overseeing Barclays operations outside South Africa.

Chibiya began his Barclays career in 2010 as CEO and Managing Director of Barclays Bank Zambia (now Absa Bank Zambia). He was later succeeded by Mizinga Melu.

Earlier, he spent nearly two decades at Citibank. He started as an executive trainee in 1993, became country representative for Citibank N.A. in Ghana in 2003, and was managing director & CEO of Citibank Zambia in 2006.

Born in Zambia in 1971, he studied locally and earned a BA in Economics from the University of Zambia in 1992. He is a Fellow of the Zambia Institute of Banking and Financial Services.
