Santiago de Chocorvos District
Santiago de Chocorvos District is one of sixteen districts in Huaytará Province, Huancavelica Region, Peru. Its capital is the town of Santiago de Chocorvos. The district covers 1,150.2 square kilometers and sits at about 2,571 meters above sea level. It had a population of 3,892 people according to the 2005 census. The UBIGEO code for the district is 090613. It lies in the central highlands of Peru.
Geography
The district is in the Andes and features many high mountains. One of the highest is Aqu Q'asa, around 4,400 meters tall. Other notable peaks include Anta Rumi, Kuntur Q'asa, and Silla Q'asa, among many others. The landscape is rugged and mostly high-altitude grasslands and rocky terrain.
Climate
Santiago de Chocorvos has a cool, high-altitude climate. Average daytime highs range roughly from 19°C to 22°C throughout the year, and average nighttime lows are about 10°C. The area receives about 225 mm of rain per year, with most rain in January to March and a smaller wet period in December; the rest of the year is relatively dry.
