Santa Maria Maddalena, Urbania
Santa Maria Maddalena is a Catholic church and convent in Urbania, in the Marche region of Italy, built in Renaissance style. A Benedictine monastery has stood here since the 9th century, but by the early 1500s it was mostly ruined by wars in the area. The church was rebuilt in 1575, abandoned again later, and reconsecrated in 1743. During the Napoleonic era, the nuns were expelled. The convent was refurbished in 1968 and today houses Benedictine nuns. The nave is divided into two spaces by three arches, with the apse and choir reserved for the cloistered monks. The church contains three altarpieces near the apse. The convent preserves a venerated doll-like icon of a child called Bambina, representing the Virgin Mary as a child. Location: Urbania, Marche, Italy (approx. 43.6672° N, 12.5264° E).
