On March 9, 2019, a mass shooting hit La Playa Men’s Club in Salamanca, Guanajuato, Mexico. Fifteen people were killed and 5–7 were wounded. Fourteen of the victims were members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). Witnesses described attackers arriving in three vans.

Mexican authorities said the attackers were linked to the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel. Five days before the shooting, the government began a crackdown on SRL. Two days after the attack, SRL posted that a CJNG member named Julio, nicknamed “El Trompas,” was the main perpetrator.

On March 24, 2019, SRL leader Agustín Medina Soto was arrested. On July 16, 2019, authorities seized the remaining SRL resources and the property of its leader José Antonio Yépez Ortiz, aka “El Marro.” Accounts tied to Yépez and associates were blocked, totaling about 35.5 million pesos (roughly US$1.85 million).
