Saint George Church, Kasperivtsi
Saint George Church in Kasperivtsi is a fortified Orthodox church in Chortkiv District, Ternopil Oblast, Ukraine. It is an architectural monument of national importance and belongs to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU). The church was built between 1619 and 1650, and it has a stone altar dating to 1650, visible from an inscription on a slab.
During the Soviet era, the church was turned into a museum. It is a stone defensive building. Above the narthex used to stand a two-tier defensive tower, but now only the lower tier remains, crowned outside with a decorative square. The apse has a low extension and is strengthened with three buttresses. The building has a gable roof. The narthex has no windows and connects to the nave by a high interior arch. The original ceilings were replaced with wooden segmental vaults in the nave and apse. A later renovation replaced the original shingle roof with tin, which altered the church’s appearance.
