Roman Koch
Roman Paul Alois Koch, born February 4, 1958 in Munich, Germany, is a German sailor known for his success in the Soling class. He began sailing in the Flying Dutchman with his brother Maxl Koch, then switched to Soling in 1977. As helmsman, he won the Soling World Championship twice with Maxl Koch and Gregor Bornemann: first in May 2005 near Castiglione della Pescaia, Italy, earning the nickname “The Maremma boys,” and again in February 2010 on the Guaíba River off Porto Alegre, Brazil. The team also took silver at the 2009 Soling World Championship in Etobicoke, Canada. Koch earned two golds and five silvers at the Soling European Championships between 2003 and 2013, all as helmsman with the same team. He holds many national championships across several countries. He lives in Munich and works in the marine industry as a sailmaking consultant, sailing coach, and tracking and tracing consultant.
