Falling Out (Peter Bjorn and John album)
Falling Out is the second studio album by Swedish indie pop band Peter Bjorn and John, released on 4 October 2004. It was recorded in Stockholm during late 2003 to early 2004, runs 40 minutes and 22 seconds, and was released on Planekonomi. The album was produced by Björn Yttling and the band.
Singles from the album include a Peter Bjorn and John version of The Concretes’ Teen Love (released as a single in 2004 with two B-sides), It Beats Me Every Time, and Tailormade (promo only). The closing track, Goodbye Again, Or…, was recorded on lead singer Peter Morén’s mobile phone and has notably low sound quality; Morén later performed it acoustically in concerts.
Wichita Recordings later reissued Falling Out with bonus tracks from the Beats, Traps & Backgrounds EP and from the Teen Love single Fortune Favours Only The Brave. The reissue features all-text cover art as a nod to Velvet Underground designs.
The liner notes describe falling out as a theme—out of relationships and out of life’s expectations—and explain that such clashes can help people grow.
Beats, Traps & Backgrounds EP: This companion mini-album shows the more experimental side of the Falling Out sessions, contrasting with the album’s classic pop influences. It includes the instrumental Punks Jump Up and See Through (previously released). The EP reached number 45 on the Swedish singles chart for one week and uses movie samples in Unreleased Backgrounds, bridging the band’s early baroque-pop sound with their later experimentation.
