Luray Caverns Airport is a public airport located two nautical miles west of downtown Luray, Virginia. It is owned by the Town of Luray and Page County and managed by the Luray-Page County Airport Authority. The airport has no IATA designation. The FAA uses the code LUA and the ICAO code KLUA.
The airport covers 95 acres and sits at an elevation of 903 feet above sea level. It has one asphalt runway, 4/22, which is 3,125 by 75 feet.
In the year ending June 30, 2011, the airport had 8,076 aircraft operations (about 22 per day): 93% general aviation, 6% air taxi, and 1% military. There were 14 aircraft based at the airport: 79% single-engine and 21% multi-engine.
History and future plans: Construction began in 1969 on land donated by Ted Graves, owner of Luray Caverns, and operations started in 1971. The airport has expanded several times since, including new hangars in 2008 and a larger property boundary. Through 2027, more than $9 million in improvements are planned, including 18 additional Tee hangars, a new terminal, a taxiway, and a fuel farm. The runway is planned to be extended to 4,400 feet. Courtesy transportation to Luray Caverns attractions is available on request.
