Robert Barber (seaman)
Robert Barber (1749–1783) was an Irish sailor in the Royal Navy. He was born in Kilkenny, Ireland, and served as a quartermaster on HMS Adventure during Captain Cook's Second Voyage (1772–1775). He became an able seaman on 1 January 1773. Barber later served as master on several ships: HMS Mercury (29 December 1779), HMS Jupiter (12 October 1780), and HMS Princessa (29 November 1780). The Princessa was the blue squadron's flagship at the Battle of the Saintes on 12 April 1782. He died in 1783 while still in service, aged about 33 or 34.
