Robert Allan Ackerman
Robert Allan Ackerman (June 30, 1944 – January 10, 2022) was an American film and theatre director. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, and moved to Kew Gardens, Queens, when he was five. After graduating from Adelphi University, he spent seven years teaching in Harlem. Ackerman directed both stage productions and films, including the Broadway production of Bent with Richard Gere and Salome with Al Pacino. He directed numerous films from the 1990s onward and earned five Emmy nominations and two Golden Globes nominations. Ackerman died of kidney failure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on January 10, 2022, at the age of 77.
