Roanoke City Firehouse No. 6
Roanoke City Firehouse No. 6 is a historic fire station in the Belmont neighborhood of Roanoke, Virginia, located at 1015 Jamison Ave. SE. Built in 1911, this two‑story, three‑bay building has a hipped roof and was designed by Homer M. Miller to resemble an early 20th‑century American Foursquare house with Classical Revival details, including a wide center bay and two large double doors. It was one of three nearly identical stations built that year, all opened on the same day in September. One of the other two stations survives as Fire Station No. 5 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (2011). These stations were Roanoke’s first to have motorized firefighting equipment and were placed to serve their surrounding neighborhoods within about 1.5 miles. No. 6 stopped operating as a firehouse in 1979 and later became a community center, then a satellite police station. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 24, 1991.
