Tommy Bahama Challenge
The Tommy Bahama Challenge was a short golf event on the PGA Tour’s Challenge Season, a series that doesn’t count toward the official money list. It took place at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, and ran for two years. Sponsored by Tommy Bahama, it featured teams of four U.S. players against four international players, each team led by a non-playing captain. Only players 30 or under could be invited.
In 2004, scoring was mixed: players faced off in one-on-one matches, using stroke-play scores for the individual games while the overall result used match-play scoring. Each win earned a point for a team. In 2005, the format changed to a pure match-play system for both the matches and the event.
If there was a tie (as happened in 2004), the rules called for a sudden-death playoff using alternate-shot play. The 2004 event occurred in early November and was broadcast on CBS on January 1, 2005. The November 2005 event was aired on January 2, 2006.
