Rimpa Siva
Rimpa Siva (born 1986) is an Indian classical musician and one of the few women who play the tabla professionally. She learned the Farukhabad gharana from her father, Prof. Swapan Siva. As a child, she gave her first stage performance in Kolkata at age eight. She has played at many festivals and concerts around the world, including the United States when she was in 6th grade, and later in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. A 1999 French documentary titled Rimpa Siva: Princess of Tabla showcased her career. She earned an MA from Rabindra Bharati University. She has received several honors, including the Shamukha Sangeet Shiramani Award, the Indian Music Academy’s President Award, and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.
