Ricky ("Weird Al" Yankovic song)

Ricky is a 1983 comedy song by Weird Al Yankovic featuring voice actress Tress MacNeille. It spoofs Toni Basil’s hit Mickey (which was itself based on the Racey song Kitty) and centers on Lucy and Ricky Ricardo from the 1950s TV show I Love Lucy, focusing on their conversations and hobbies.

Recorded in February 1983 and released May 3, 1983 on the Scotti Brothers label, the track runs about 2 minutes and 35 seconds. It appears on the album Weird Al Yankovic and was written by Mike Chapman, Nicky Chinn, and Weird Al, with production by Rick Derringer.

The music video, Yankovic’s first, was directed by Janet Greek and filmed mostly in black and white to resemble I Love Lucy. Yankovic plays Ricky Ricardo with a Cuban accent (without his usual glasses and mustache) while MacNeille plays Lucy. The video ends with a nod to the I Love Lucy theme, and Ricky’s trademark laugh. Lucille Ball reportedly sent Yankovic a signed letter of appreciation for the parody, and Dr. Demento makes a cameo at the end. The video is often noted as one of the first comedy videos shown on MTV.
