Mervyn Jaffey
Isaac Mervyn Jaffey was an Irish cricketer born on 9 September 1929 in Dublin. He later became known as Mervyn Jaffey and, after moving to the United States, as Mervyn Jeffries. He passed away on 18 December 2014 in Bethesda, Maryland.
A right-handed batsman and wicket-keeper, Jaffey was highly regarded as a keeper at school. He attended Trinity College Dublin, joined the cricket team in his first year, and captained the side in 1952. He played for Ireland in 1953 in two matches, including one first-class game. He made his Ireland debut against the MCC at Lord's in June 1953, did not bat in the first innings, and scored 1 run in the second innings.
His only first-class appearance came against Scotland in Belfast, a rain-affected match. In his international outings for Ireland he took 1 catch and made 3 stumpings.
Cricket took a back seat to his medical career, and he later emigrated to the United States to advance his work as a doctor. He eventually changed his name to Mervyn Jeffries.
