Rick Hahn
Rick Hahn (born March 20, 1971) is an American former baseball executive who most recently served as the Chicago White Sox’s general manager. He grew up in Winnetka, Illinois, graduated from New Trier High School, and earned degrees from the University of Michigan (BA), Harvard Law School (JD), and the Kellogg School of Management (MBA). As a boy, he wrote a letter to Cubs executive Dallas Green offering trade ideas, which inspired his lifelong dream of working in baseball.
Hahn began as a sports agent in 2000 before joining the White Sox in 2002. After the 2007 season he turned down several GM opportunities and the White Sox did not allow him to interview for others. He was widely regarded as a top GM candidate in the early 2010s. In 2012, Hahn was promoted from assistant general manager to GM when Kenny Williams moved to executive vice president.
He won the Sporting News Executive of the Year in 2020 after the White Sox reached the postseason for the first time since 2008. The team then earned back-to-back playoff appearances and won the 2021 AL Central, a historic milestone for the franchise. On August 22, 2023, Hahn and Williams were dismissed as the White Sox finished the season with 101 losses.
Hahn lives in Glencoe, Illinois with his wife, Jean, and their two sons. He is Jewish.
