1976 Icelandic Cup
The 1976 Icelandic Cup was the 17th edition of Iceland’s national football cup. It ran from 2 June to 12 September 1976, with the final at Laugardalsvöllur in Reykjavík. The cup winner earned a place in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. If the cup winner also won the league, the losing finalist would take the European spot. Nine teams from the top division (1. Deild) entered in the last 16, while teams from lower divisions began in three preliminary rounds. Matches were one-off; if tied, they were replayed at the other team’s ground. Valur won the cup for the third time, beating ÍA in the final. Because Valur also won the league, ÍA qualified for Europe as runners-up.
