Richard Deschamps
Richard Deschamps is a Canadian politician from Montreal, Quebec. He serves as vice-chair of the Montreal Executive Committee, overseeing infrastructure and economic development, and he represents the Sault-Saint-Louis district on Montreal City Council. He was a member of the Union Montreal party from 2001 to 2013 and has been independent since 2013. Deschamps first won a seat on LaSalle City Council in 1999. After LaSalle merged into Montreal, he has represented Sault-Saint-Louis on Montreal City Council since 2002.
Education and career: Deschamps holds an MBA, a Master of Science in industrial relations, and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology. He has taught at Cégep Marie-Victorin, HEC Montréal, and Université de Montréal. He has worked as a management consultant for the National Bank of Canada, Transat Group, and the Fonds de solidarité FTQ.
In 2012, after the resignation of Gérald Tremblay, Union Montreal named Deschamps as its candidate for Mayor of Montreal. In the council vote on November 16, he was defeated by Michael Applebaum, 31 votes to 29.
