Ranindu Dilshan Liyanage

Ranindu Dilshan Liyanage (born 2003) is a Sri Lankan chess player and the 2020 national champion. He earned the International Master title in 2023. In July 2021, he became the first Sri Lankan man to play in the FIDE Chess World Cup, held in Sochi; he was the second Sri Lankan to compete at the event and lost in the first round to Grigoriy Oparin.

He is coached by Uzbek grandmaster Alexei Barsov.

Early life and training
- Started playing chess in 2009 at Asoka Primary School, Kalagedihena, Gampaha, and moved to Ananda College in Grade 3.
- Early coaches included Suneetha Wijesuriya; later Romesh Weerawardane (2013).

Key achievements
- 2016: Bronze with Sri Lanka Under-14 at the Asian Nations Cup in China.
- 2017: Bronze in Under-14 at the West Asian Youth Championship in Sri Lanka.
- 2017: Candidate Master title.
- 2018: Represented Sri Lanka’s Under-16 team at the World Youth Championship in Turkey.
- 2020: Won the national championship at age 16, the first Ananda College student to do so in 20 years.
- 2021: Won the Sri Lanka Chess Grand Prix; bronze at the Asian Hybrid Chess Championship; part of the Sri Jayawardenepura University team that won the National Inter Club Championship.
