Minister of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions
Minister of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions is a cabinet post in the Indonesian government. The current minister is Yandri Susanto, who has held the position since 20 October 2024. He is supported by Deputy Minister Budi Arie Setiadi.
The ministry focuses on developing villages and improving conditions in disadvantaged regions, and handles related programs such as transmigration.
History in brief: the post began in 2000 as a junior minister position, with Manuel Kaisiepo as the first holder (and later as full minister in 2001). Under Megawati, a separate ministry for accelerating development in the East existed. In 2011, the post was renamed to Minister of Development of Disadvantaged Regions after the state minister position was abolished. In 2014, President Jokowi merged the Transmigration portfolio from the Ministry of Manpower into this ministry. In Jokowi’s second term, a deputy minister was added to assist.
Party background: most ministers have come from the National Awakening Party (PKB), until the current minister Yandri Susanto, who is from the National Mandate Party (PAN). The deputy ministers have included independents and members of the Gerindra Party.
