Radio Enoch
Two Spires Radio, known as Radio Enoch, was a pirate radio station in the United Kingdom from the West Midlands. It started in 1978 and took its name from Enoch Powell. The station promoted socially conservative, pro-capitalist views and argued it was unlicensed because its opinions on race and immigration would be banned by a so-called socialist media. It supported white minority rule governments in Rhodesia and South Africa. A group called People Against Marxism ran it, and they aired hour-long shows once a month. The General Post Office tried to shut it down, even though about 200 people were involved. Broadcasts came from various sites across Britain, with equipment stored between transmissions to avoid detection. As Thatcherism rose and politics shifted, Radio Enoch’s purpose faded. It stopped broadcasting in June 1980, vowing to return if a socialist government came to power, but it never did, including after Labour won in 1997.
