Reginald Sherriff Summerhays was a British horseman and writer. In 1914 the British War Office appointed him Civilian Remount Purchasing Officer to buy horses for World War I, and he later served in the Army Service Corps. In the early 1920s he rode in endurance tests of 60 miles a day for five days. He then became managing director of a large hunting, hacking and pony business. He later edited the journal Riding, retiring after thirteen years. After that he published his first equine book. For more than 40 years he was a horse show judge and served on many horse-breeding boards. He was president of the Arab Horse Society. His interests included polo. He originated Horseman's Sunday and also the Horse and Pony Breeding and Benefit Fund.
