Ngora District
Ngora District is in Uganda’s Eastern Region, within the Teso sub-region. Its capital is Ngora. The district was created on 1 July 2010, when it split from Kumi District. It borders Soroti to the northwest, Katakwi to the northeast, Kumi to the east, Pallisa to the south, and Serere to the west. The district covers about 721.4 square kilometers and sits at about 1,100 meters above sea level. Coordinates are 01°30′N, 33°48′E. It lies roughly 23 kilometers west of Kumi town and about 230 kilometers by road northeast of Kampala. In 2012, Ngora District had an estimated population of 157,400 with a density of around 218 people per square kilometer. The time zone is East Africa Time (UTC+3).
Parliamentary representation: Apolot Stella Isodo is the woman representative for Ngora District; Abala David represents Ngora County. The district is inhabited mainly by Iteso and Kumam people. Ngora is part of the Teso sub-region, which also includes Amuria, Bukedea, Kaberamaido, Katakwi, Kumi, Serere, and Soroti districts, with an estimated 2.5 million people.
