Ptilotus latifolius, commonly known as tangled mulla mulla or white foxtail, is a flowering plant in the Amaranthaceae family and is native to Australia. It is an annual or short‑lived perennial herb with hairy stems and egg‑shaped leaves. The plant usually grows up to about 70 cm tall. Flowers appear in dense, white spikes that are spherical or oval and up to about 25 mm long. It can flower most months, with a peak from July to October. The species was first described in 1849 by Robert Brown, and the name latifolius means broad‑leaved. Tangled mulla mulla grows on sand dunes and stony plains across many regions of northern and western Australia, the Northern Territory, South Australia, Queensland, and parts of New South Wales. Seeds form inside enclosed tepals that act as a seed case and are dispersed by the wind.
