Pseudovertagus aluco
Pseudovertagus aluco, also known as the aluco vertagus or Cuming's cerith, is a sea snail in the Cerithiidae family. It lives in the Indo-Pacific from eastern Africa to the Philippines, including northern Australia (Northern Territory, Queensland and Western Australia), the Samoan Islands, and New Caledonia. It is found on sand-bars at high tide, tidal flats, on clean sand, and on coral rubble. The shell can reach 45–95 millimetres in length and is tall and cone-shaped with a small opening and a few rows of small bumps along the spirals. These snails usually extend their proboscis and foot into the sediment rather than burrowing beneath the surface.
Classification: Kingdom Animalia; Phylum Mollusca; Class Gastropoda; Family Cerithiidae; Genus Pseudovertagus; Species aluco.
