The Provincial Committee for Serbia (PKS) was the Serbian branch of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia during the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and the German occupation in World War II. It became the Communist Party of Serbia on May 8, 1945. On July 4, 1941, the PKS created the Main Staff of the National Liberation Army and Partisan Detachments of Serbia. In 1941 it helped the communists in western Serbia, sending party members to areas that needed political work. The Central Committee for Liberated Territory was set up in the short‑lived Republic of Užice in western occupied Serbia. In November 1942, the reformed PKS set up 12 new county and district committees.
