Hiekkaharju, meaning “sand esker” (Swedish: Sandkulla), is a mainly residential district in Vantaa, Finland, just north of Tikkurila. It has its own Hiekkaharju railway station, which is used by commuters around Greater Helsinki. About 4,930 people lived there in 2014. Shops are mainly in nearby Tikkurila, while Hiekkaharju is mainly housing. The first homes were built in the 1920s, and in the 1950s many apartment buildings were added. The railway station is often described as one of Finland’s most beautiful.
