Priorslee
Priorslee is a large village in the Telford and Wrekin borough of Shropshire, England. It sits in the St George's and Priorslee civil parish, alongside Central Park, Redhill, Snedshill and St George's. The area sits on land where a Roman settlement once existed, and Roman coins have been found nearby.
Historically, Priorslee was known as Priors-Lee, a chapelry of Shifnal. It became a separate civil parish in 1898, but in 1934 the parish was merged to form Oakengates. In 1931 the parish had 2,644 residents. During the 1960s and 1970s it joined with nearby villages as the town of Telford grew.
The village expanded in the Industrial Revolution thanks to the Lilleshall Company in nearby Oakengates and the Wolverhampton–Shrewsbury railway. The local church, built between 1825 and 1827, is dedicated to Saint Peter and is Grade II listed. It contains World War I and World War II memorials, and the churchyard holds four World War I graves. The church was closed in 2022 for repairs and may be declared redundant.
Today, Priorslee is mainly residential with some shops and is near Stafford Park, an area with both industry and retail. It has a Sikh Gurdwara on Whitechapel Way. For education, there is a primary school and Holy Trinity Academy (secondary). The University of Wolverhampton runs the Telford Innovation Campus at Priorslee Hall, opened in 1994, with facilities for engineering, built environment, business, computing and social work, plus housing for about 500 students and a startup support center.
The village is close to the Wolverhampton–Shrewsbury railway line; the nearest stations are Oakengates and Shifnal. In the past, nearby Trench and Donnington had stations on the Stafford–Shrewsbury line. Watling Street also passes nearby. Regular buses connect Priorslee with Telford, Shifnal, Newport, Shrewsbury, Wellington and Stafford.
