Big Blue River Bridge near Surprise, Nebraska, is a historic pin-connected Pratt truss bridge built in 1897. It was designed by the Canton Bridge Co. with steel made by the Jones & Laughlin Steel Co. and crosses the Big Blue River about one mile southeast of Surprise. It’s a rare, old example of a truss leg bedstead bridge and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992 (NRHP reference number 92000708). The bridge covers less than an acre in size. It was closed to traffic in 2010, but has since reopened.
