Portrait of Benjamin Franklin is a 1767 oil painting by Scottish artist David Martin. It shows Franklin seated next to a bust of Isaac Newton. At the time, Franklin was living in London and acting as colonial agent for Pennsylvania, Georgia, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. The portrait was commissioned by Edinburgh merchant Robert Alexander, a friend of Franklin. It was shown at the 1767 Exhibition of the Society of Artists at Spring Gardens. Today the painting is part of the White House collection in Washington, D.C. The artwork measures 127.2 cm by 101.4 cm (50.1 in by 39.9 in).
