Plug-in electric vehicles in Malaysia
- As of December 2021, about 31,000 electric vehicles (EVs) were registered in Malaysia.
- In 2021, around 0.05% of new cars sold were electric.
- From January 2022, EVs are exempt from road tax.
- From 2022, EVs are exempt from all import duties.
- In February 2023, MITI announced that Tesla has been approved to operate in Malaysia.
- As of October 2021, there were 251 public charging stations; as of August 2021, there were 9 public DC fast charging stations.
- In 2022, the government offered subsidies up to RM2,500 for installing charging stations.
- By February 2024, Melaka state had 118 charging bays.
