Pleszew County is a local government area in the Greater Poland Voivodeship of west-central Poland. Its administrative seat is the town of Pleszew, about 83 kilometers southeast of Poznań. The county was created on January 1, 1999, as part of Poland’s local government reforms. It covers about 712 square kilometers and has a population of about 61,951 (in 2006), with 17,787 people living in Pleszew and 44,164 in the rural areas. The county borders Września and Słupca counties to the north, Konin County to the northeast, the city of Kalisz and Kalisz County to the southeast, Ostrów Wielkopolski County to the south, Krotoszyn County to the southwest, and Jarocin County to the west. It is divided into six gminas: Chocz, Czermin, Dobrzyca, Gizałki, Gołuchów and Pleszew.
