Pia Balling
Pia Balling, born Kirsten Pia Balling on June 20, 1940, is a former Danish tennis player. From Vedbæk, she began playing tennis at age 14 with coach Kurt Nielsen. She won Denmark’s national singles title 11 times in the 1960s (five indoors, six outdoors) and played in Wimbledon doubles. Her best Grand Slam singles result was reaching the third round at the 1962 US Open. She represented Denmark in the Federation Cup from 1963 to 1967 and studied at Russell Sage College in New York. By 2003 she ran a cafe in Carefree, Arizona. She is the mother of professional player Merete Balling-Stockmann.
