Phyllis Kandie
Phyllis Jepkosgei Kipkingor Kandie, commonly known as Phyllis Kandie (born c. 1965 in Eldama Ravine, Kenya), is a Kenyan diplomat and government adviser. In 2023 she was appointed as the president’s advisor on Commodities Market Development.
She served as Kenya’s ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Union from January 27, 2018 to April 2022. Before that, she held two cabinet posts under President Uhuru Kenyatta: East African Affairs and Labour from April 2012 to December 2016, and Labour and Social Protection from December 2016 to January 2018.
Education-wise, she has a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics) from Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Canada, and an MBA from Middlesex University and Durham University in the United Kingdom. Her career includes being Director of Investment Advisory Services at Standard Investment Bank, working as a regulator in capital markets, energy and agriculture, and consulting for the World Bank and the European Union on SMEs. She also served on the Kenya Revenue Authority board (2010–2013) and is a member of the Institute of Directors of Kenya, KEPSA, and the Association of Stockbrokers and Investment Banks. She is married to Julius Kandie and they have two sons, Lawrence and Simon.
