Greta Morgan
Greta Morgan Salpeter, born February 12, 1988, is an American singer, songwriter, and musician based in Los Angeles. She started her music career in 2005 as the singer and pianist for The Hush Sound, a band she formed with Bob Morris; she was just 16 when she began touring with them. She later formed Gold Motel, whose debut album came out in 2010.
Since 2014, she has performed as Springtime Carnivore, releasing two albums: the self-titled Springtime Carnivore (2014) and Midnight Room (2016). In 2016 she also released Take It, It’s Yours, a collection of punk rock covers with 1960s pop arrangements, created with Katy Goodman. Pitchfork called it a cozy cover-set. In 2018 she joined Vampire Weekend for live performances on keyboards, guitar and vocals; she is a distant relative of Ezra Koenig.
Greta has worked on several side projects. She started recording with Gold Motel in 2009. She formed Books of Love with Katy Goodman and released the song “Space Time” in 2013. Her solo Springtime Carnivore project began in 2012 with a six-track EP. The 2014 Springtime Carnivore album was released through Autumn Tone Records, followed by a 2015 tour supporting The Dodos.
She is versatile on many instruments, including guitar, bass and drums, in addition to singing and piano. In 2020 she was diagnosed with Spasmodic Dysphonia, a voice disorder. In 2025 she published a memoir, The Lost Voice, about how COVID-19 left her unable to sing.
