Peter Hart (born 10 January 1955 in Weardale, England) is a British military historian who focuses on the First World War. He grew up in Stanhope and Barton-under-Needwood and studied at Chesterfield, Liverpool University, Crewe & Alsager College, and Liverpool Polytechnic. He worked as an oral historian at the Imperial War Museum in London for nearly four decades.

Hart has written many books about Britain's role in World War I, including The Somme, Jutland 1916, Bloody April, Passchendaele, Aces Falling, 1918: A Very British Victory, and Gallipoli. His books rely heavily on eyewitness accounts, many from interviews he conducted. He also writes for Britain at War magazine.

He visits the Gallipoli peninsula often and became friends with Australian historian Mat McLachlan. After leaving the Imperial War Museum, Hart started a podcast, Pete & Gary's Military History, in 2020 with Gary Bain. The show blends history with humor and has a generally positive reception. It is backed by McLachlan and produced by Living History. He has continued publishing on Gallipoli, including Laugh or Cry in 2022, and has appeared on History Hit podcasts with Dan Snow. He speaks at many events and works with groups such as the Great War Group and Western Front associations.
