Pete Munro
Pete Munro (born June 14, 1975 in Flushing, New York) is a former American Major League Baseball pitcher. He threw and batted right-handed and played for the Toronto Blue Jays (1999–2000) and Houston Astros (2002–2004). He was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 6th round of 1993 and was traded to the Blue Jays in 1998 in the deal that brought Mike Stanley to Boston. Munro made his MLB debut on April 6, 1999 with Toronto and appeared in 40 games over two seasons for the Blue Jays.
He was traded to the Texas Rangers as the player to be named later in the deal for Dave Martinez, and he re-signed with the Rangers for 2001. Munro joined the Astros before the 2002 season, splitting time between the majors and Triple-A, and posting a career-best 3.57 ERA in 19 games (14 starts).
His career highlight came on June 11, 2003, when he, Roy Oswalt, Kirk Saarloos, Brad Lidge, Octavio Dotel, and Billy Wagner combined to throw a no-hitter against the New York Yankees—the first in 45 years. The Astros’ six-patter group also set a major league record for the most pitchers used in a no-hitter. In 2003 Munro mostly pitched out of the bullpen, appearing in 40 games with two spot starts. In 2004 he went 4–7 with a 5.15 ERA.
After leaving Houston, he signed a minor league deal with the Minnesota Twins and played for the Rochester Red Wings in 2006. He later played in Taiwan for the Uni-President Lions in 2007, earning a CPBL All-Star selection. He joined the York Revolution of the Atlantic League in 2008 but was released after an injury. Career MLB stats: 13–19 win–loss, 4.88 ERA, 189 strikeouts.
