Pervomayskaya (closed)
Pervomayskaya was a temporary Moscow Metro station on the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya Line. It operated from 24 September 1954 until 21 October 1961, replacing by the permanent Izmaylovskaya station nearby. The station was located inside the Izmaylovo depot, which had been built in 1950 because the depot needed to be east of Izmaylovskaya (Partizanskaya) due to the dense surrounding area. To connect passengers, a temporary ground-level station was created inside the depot, and it became the first surface-level Moscow Metro station and the only one with a wooden roof. When Izmaylovskaya opened about 0.5 km to the east, Pervomayskaya was closed. The depot and its facilities remained in use for many years, with a new depot at the west end of the line completed in 2015. The station’s tiled walls and decorative reliefs are well preserved, and its vestibule near the intersection of Pervomayskaya and 1st Parkovaya streets is still used for official ceremonies. Do not confuse this temporary station with the later Pervomayskaya station on the same line, opened in 1961 further to the east.
