People's Park, officially the Mário Pimenta Camargo Municipal Park, opened on September 28, 2008, in the Itaim Bibi district of São Paulo. It covers about 133,500 square meters. The park includes a sports complex with three multisport courts (with Paralympic markings), a green grass soccer field, a cycling track, a skate area, and walking and running tracks. It also features a life-size chess board on the ground where visitors move big pieces, plus exercise equipment and spaces for sunbathing and picnics on the central lawn. The Sensitive Garden has aromatic herbs you can smell, touch, or taste, such as mustard, coriander, chives, aloe, and basil. The park is fully accessible and was built with recycled materials from city demolitions. It is rich in nature, with more than 37 bird species, including hummingbirds, woodpeckers, kiskadees, thrushes, and tico-ticos; in the trees or sky you may also see macaws and other birds. There are 32 plant species, including native and exotic fruit trees, hardwoods, and climbing plants, such as grumixama and the endangered brazilwood.
