Paschimodayam was the second Malayalam magazine published in Kerala. It began in October 1847 and ended in August 1851. The Basel Mission Society owned the journal. While its structure was like Rajyasamacharam, the first Malayalam magazine, Paschimodayam included not only Christian content but also articles on science, history, astronomy, and geography. It was an eight-page issue that cost two paisa, with an annual subscription of ₹1. It had a better appearance than Rajyasamacharam and was printed on royal octavo size paper (234 mm × 156 mm). George Frederick Muller served as editor.
