Papilio oenomaus is a butterfly in the swallowtail family found on Timor and nearby islands such as Moa, Kisser, and Roma, and probably on other small islands between Timor and the Tanimbar Islands. The wingspan is about 120–130 mm. It is black and tailed, without blue scaling, and the forewing is elongated.

Male: The upper forewing has a broad pale yellow discal band, while the underside is grey-white. The hindwing on top has no markings; underneath there is a single row of yellowish-red submarginal spots away from the cell and three red basal patches.

Female: The forewing disc and cell are semitransparent, the pale band is lighter, and the red basal patch is present on the upper side as well. The hindwing has a median band with reddish edges, large red submarginal spots on both sides, and reddish marginal spots. The female is very similar to Papilio liris and often flies with it.

Subspecies: subfasciatus, described by Rothschild from Wetter, is distinguished in the female by a very narrow, incomplete discal band on the hindwing; in males the band on the forewing is generally a bit narrower.
