Panopoda carneicosta
Panopoda carneicosta, the brown panopoda, is a moth in the family Erebidae. It was first described by Achille Guenée in 1852. This species is found across much of North America, from Ontario, Quebec and Maine down to Florida, west to Texas, and north to Wisconsin and Minnesota. The wingspan is about 38–46 mm. Adults fly at various times from spring to early fall, with June and July being common; there is usually one generation per year in the north, and possibly two in the south. The caterpillars feed on the leaves of basswood, oak, hickory, and willow. Taxonomically, the species is Panopoda carneicosta (Guenée, 1852); synonyms include Panopoda scissa and Panopoda combinata.
