Palestinian Village council

Village councils are local governments in areas run by the Palestinian Authority. They serve villages with about 800 to more than 3,000 residents and are also called D-level municipalities. There are 355 village councils in Palestine. A village council has 3 to 11 members, including a chairman, a deputy chairman, and a secretary. The chairman leads the council. Unlike larger municipalities, village councils do not hold elections. Instead, the village’s largest clans choose a chairman, who is then appointed by the Local Government Minister of the Palestinian National Authority.
