Padanayarkulangara Mahadeva Temple
Padanayarkulangara Mahadeva Temple is an ancient Hindu temple in Karunagappally town, Kollam district, Kerala. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and sits on the banks of the Pallikkal River. The temple is one of the 108 Shiva temples in Kerala and sits along National Highway 47. A popular legend says Shiva and Krishna walked through this area; Krishna found a beautiful place to stay, and Shiva joined him there. Karunagappally has a history of belonging to the Ay dynasty, then Odanad, and later Travancore, with the Kayamkulam kings using it as their headquarters for a time. Nearby Marathurkulangara yielded a 9th-century Buddha statue. The temple celebrates Maha Shivaratri.
