Ovídio Martins
Ovídio de Sousa Martins (17 September 1928 – 29 April 1999) was a Cape Verdean poet and journalist. He was born in Mindelo, São Vicente, Cape Verde, and died in Lisbon, Portugal, at age 70. He finished high school in Cape Verde and began studies in Portugal, but had to stop for health reasons. In 1958 he helped found the Cultural Supplement Bulletin of Cape Verde. Because of his pro‑independence activities, he lived in exile in the Netherlands, where he wrote about 100 poems. His works include "Flagelados do vento leste" and "Comunhão," which appear on the CD "Poesia de Cabo Verde e Sete Poemas de Sebastião da Gama" by Afonso Dias. He wrote poems in the creole of São Vicente and in Portuguese.
