Kai Hua Roh
Kai Hua Roh is a Thai funny comic book that started in 1973. It was created by editor Vithit Utsahajit, who is part of the Bunluesarn family. The name means “To Sell Laugh.” The comic features funny strips about everyday life, pop culture, society, politics, entertainment, and news. It also includes articles, short stories, and guest pieces from public figures.
Vithit chose the name with help from an artist. At first, Kai Hua Roh was printed on A4 paper, then it was changed to a pocket-sized format for easier carrying.
After many years on the shelves, Banluesarn stopped printing Kai Hua Roh as a regular book and moved to e-books and online formats. The last print issue was number 1515, released on May 11, 2021. The mascot of Kai Hua Roh is Editor Withit, a fictional editor inspired by Vithit. This character is a fat, strict editor who teases the artists and often changes his look to match current trends.
Besides Kai Hua Roh, other Thai comics like PangPond and A Flowergirl and Banana Boy were popular. Two years after Kai Hua Roh began, Bunluesarn also published Mahasanook, which included short Kai Hua Roh stories. Mahasanook ended publication with issue 1362 in 2021.
