Omphalosauridae is an extinct family of marine reptiles related to ichthyosaurs. They lived in the Early to Middle Triassic period, about 252 to 235 million years ago, and fossils have been found in Europe, North America, and Asia. The family includes the genera Cartorhynchus, Omphalosaurus, and Sclerocormus. Omphalosauridae was named by Merriam in 1906, and a later synonym used for the group is Nasorostra (Jiang et al., 2016).
